The Livadia Palace

The Grand Livadia Palace was designed in Italian Renaissance style by architect N.Krasnov (1864 - 1939). It was erected as summer residence for the Russian Tsar Nicolas II.

It is located on the site of the old palace and it took seventeen months to build it (from April 23, 1910 till September 14, 1911). In building the palace were used most advanced technologies of that time.

Besides white Inkerman stone, the designer used the Crimean diorite, marble limestone, the Italian marble, non- ferrous metals, glass and precious kinds of woods.

The main entrance was designed in the form of the protruded portico decoraed with the Carrar marble.

The architecture of rwo patios, Arabian and Italian, is original.

A significant historic event of the Second World War period is connected with the Palace. The Crimean (Yalta) Conference of the Heads of the three allied powers of the anti-Hitler coalition, the USSR, the USA and Great Britain was held in the palace from February 4 till February 11, 1945.

The delegations of the allied states which took part in the Conference stayed in three palaces of the Southern Crimea. The US delegation stayed in the Livadia Palace, while British delegation was in Alupka (Vorontsov's) Palace and USSR delegation was in Koreis Palace.

In February 1945 the Front Entrance Hall was the place where paricipants of the Crimean Conference gathered together before the opening of plenary meetings.

During the period of the Crimean Conference, The Billiard Room served as a dining room for F.Roosevelt. On the last day of the Conference, on February 11, 1945, historical documents were signed in this room by W.Churchill, F.Roosevelt and I.Stalin.The exposition in this room shows a picture taken in the center of the Italian patio on February 9, 1945.

THE TSAR GRAND RECEPTION STUDY during the Crimean Conference served as the bedroom of F.Roosevelt, where President of the USA worked and relaxed.

The Waiting Room during the Crimean Conference was reception room of the US President Franklin Roosevelt. Two meetings (on February 4 and 8) were held here between F.Roosevelt and I.Stalin, the head of the USSR delegation. During the second meeting the leaders discussed the problem of the USSR becoming involed into the war against Japan.
